Knee Pain Treatment Near West Palm Beach, FL

Your Knee Is Talking. Most People Just Aren't Listening to the Right Thing.

You felt it during your last run. Or on the way down in a squat. Maybe it was the moment you went to kneel on the floor with your grandkids and something just didn’t feel right.

It might be sharp. It might be a dull ache that builds over time. Maybe it clicks. Maybe it swells after a hard session and you’ve started timing how long it takes to go back to normal. Maybe it’s none of those things and you just know, the way people who move a lot always know, that something in that knee isn’t functioning the way it should.

So you did what most people do. You rested. You stretched. You iced it, bought a knee sleeve, maybe tried a different warm-up. And it helped. Until it didn’t.

Here’s what most people don’t realize: the knee is almost never the problem.

It’s the victim.

The knee sits between two of the most influential joints in the body, the hip and the ankle. When either of those stops doing its job properly, the knee absorbs the difference. Every step. Every rep. Every mile. That accumulated stress builds until the knee finally says enough.

Treating the knee without addressing why it’s being overloaded in the first place is like replacing a tire that keeps going flat without ever pulling out the nail.

At Athlete Restoration Co., we pull out the nail.

Schedule your knee evaluation and let’s figure out what’s actually going on.

The Knee Doesn't Work in Isolation. Neither Does Our Treatment.

The knee is one of the most commonly painful joints in the body and one of the most commonly mistreated.

Here’s what we know clinically: the knee is a hinge. It flexes and extends. It doesn’t generate much independent movement, and it wasn’t designed to. What it was designed to do is transfer force efficiently between what’s happening above it and below it.

When the hip isn’t generating enough power or control, the knee compensates. When the ankle is stiff and not absorbing load properly, the knee takes the hit. When the core can’t stabilize the pelvis during single-leg activity, the knee gets pulled into positions that grind, compress, and eventually irritate the tissues inside it.

Pain is the last thing that shows up. Not the first.

Which means if you’re feeling it now, there’s a pattern that has been building for much longer than the pain has been there.

That pattern is what we treat.

Sound Familiar?

Knee pain shows up differently for different people. But the story underneath it tends to follow the same plot.

You might recognize yourself in one of these:

  • Pain under or around the kneecap during squats, stairs, or after sitting too long, the kind that gets better once you warm up but always comes back
  • A tendon that aches below the kneecap after training, especially after heavy loading days or a spike in volume
  • An outside-of-the-knee tightness that shows up like clockwork at mile two or three of your run
  • A knee that swells, catches, or feels like it has something loose inside it when you change direction quickly
  • Post-surgical stiffness, atrophy, and that nagging feeling that the leg still isn’t quite right even though you’ve been cleared
  • A knee that used to be fine and now just isn’t, no specific injury, no dramatic moment, just a slow fade you can’t quite explain
  • Discomfort you’ve learned to work around so well that you’ve forgotten what it feels like to just move

Whatever your version looks like, one thing is consistent: it’s not going to resolve on its own. Not because the knee can’t heal, but because the conditions that created the problem are still there.

Conditions We Treat

Knee pain comes in many forms. Understanding the specific diagnosis matters, but it’s just the starting point. What matters more is understanding how that condition is affecting the way your body moves and loads.

Knee pain comes in many forms. Understanding the specific diagnosis matters, but it’s just the starting point. What matters more is understanding how that condition is affecting the way your body moves and loads.

Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome

The classic runner’s knee. Compression under the kneecap during loading, usually a hip control problem wearing a knee pain disguise.

Patellar Tendinopathy

Tendon irritation just below the kneecap, common in athletes who jump, sprint, and load heavily. Notoriously undertreated and quick to become chronic when managed with rest alone.

IT Band Syndrome

Lateral knee pain that builds predictably with running. Almost always involves hip weakness and poor load management, not a tightness problem.

Meniscus Injuries

Pain, swelling, catching, or clicking inside the joint. Some tears need surgery. Many don’t. The movement patterns around the knee often determine which direction things go.

ACL Injury and Post-Surgical Rehabilitation

ACL recovery is not a timeline. It’s a process. Being pain-free at three months does not mean the knee is ready. Objective testing with force plates, limb symmetry indices, and jump assessments tells you what the calendar cannot.

MCL and LCL Sprains

Ligament injuries that affect how stable the knee feels under load. Often undertreated because they don’t always require surgery, but they do require a real rehab plan.

Knee Osteoarthritis

Degenerative change does not mean the end of an active life. Strength, load tolerance, and movement quality are far more powerful variables than what an X-ray shows.

Post-Surgical Rehabilitation

Total knee replacements, meniscus repairs, cartilage restoration procedures. Getting surgical clearance is a milestone, not a finish line.

Hamstring and Quad Tendon Injuries

Tendon pain at the top or bottom of the knee that limits loading and performance. Progressive loading is the treatment. Passive rest is not.

General Strength and Movement Deficits

Sometimes there’s no single diagnosis. Just a system that lost capacity somewhere and a knee paying the price for it.

From Two Surgeries to Full Confidence:
Taylor’s Story

“I had two knee surgeries within 5 months and decided to do my rehab at Athlete Restoration. I couldn’t be happier with the experience I had. From the very first session, it felt like family and every session thereafter was truly something I looked forward to every day. My knee is as healthy as it’s been and I’ve progressed my rehab tremendously during my time there. Because of Kyle, Matt and the team at ARC, I am more confident than ever to return to sport and be the player I was before injury. If you’re looking for the best care in the West Palm area, then Athlete Restoration is the right place for you. They will go over the top to make sure you are feeling like yourself again!”

— Taylor Rapp

Two surgeries in five months is a hard road. Coming out the other side more confident than before?

That’s what the right plan produces.

How We Actually Treat Knee Pain

No generic protocols. No exercise sheets. No “let’s see how it responds and check back in two weeks.”

Every evaluation at Athlete Restoration Co. starts with a question that most clinics never get around to asking: why is this knee being asked to do more than it can handle?

To answer that, we look at the whole system.

We assess how the hip controls movement during single-leg loading, because a weak hip is one of the most common drivers of knee pain we see, in everyone from competitive athletes to recreational pickleball players. We look at ankle mobility and how the foot is absorbing force with each step. We evaluate how the core and pelvis are stabilizing under load, and we look at how movement patterns may have shifted in response to pain, because the body’s protective adaptations often become part of the problem.

For patients with performance goals or surgical histories, we go further. Force plate testing gives us objective data on limb symmetry and power output. Jump assessments tell us whether the neuromuscular system is ready to handle the demands of sport or high-level activity. This isn’t guesswork dressed up in clinical language. It’s measurable, repeatable data that drives real decisions.

Treatment from there is built specifically around what you need.

That might mean targeted hip and glute strengthening to unload the knee. Progressive tendon loading to build tolerance in an irritated patellar tendon. Manual therapy and dry needling to restore mobility and reduce protective guarding. Movement retraining to correct the patterns that were quietly grinding the joint down in the first place.

And for the athletes and competitors in the room: return to sport at ARC is not a date on a calendar. It’s a standard you meet. We don’t clear people because time has passed. We clear them because they’ve demonstrated the strength, symmetry, and control their sport actually demands.

Who Walks Through Our Door

The honest answer is: a lot of different people with a lot of different knees.

The high school basketball player six weeks post-ACL reconstruction who wants to come back stronger than before the injury, not just healed. The marathon runner who has been managing IT band pain for two training cycles and finally wants it actually solved. The competitive pickleball player whose lateral movement has started suffering. The lifter who stopped squatting below parallel and has been telling themselves it’s fine. The parent who is tired of being cautious getting up off the floor.

What they share isn’t a diagnosis. It’s a standard.

They are not looking to be told what to stop doing. They want to understand what’s happening, fix the real problem, and move without hesitation again.

That is exactly who this practice was built for.

What to Expect at Your First Visit

Your first session is about one thing: clarity.

We start with a real conversation about your history, your goals, and what you’ve already tried and why it hasn’t held. From there, we move into a comprehensive movement and loading assessment that examines the knee within the full context of how your body moves.

Where appropriate, we incorporate objective testing. Force plates. Limb symmetry. Jump assessments. Not because we test everything for the sake of testing, but because the data tells us things a physical exam alone cannot.

By the time you walk out, you’ll know exactly what is driving your symptoms, what needs to change, and what the plan looks like from here. No vague timelines. No generic advice. A clear picture and a path forward built specifically for you.

Common Questions About Hip Pain

Do I need an MRI or X-ray before starting therapy? In most cases, no. A thorough movement assessment tells us more about how your knee is actually functioning than a static image taken while you’re lying still. Imaging has its place, but it’s often ordered before anyone has assessed how the joint moves under load, which is usually where the real answers are.

Can I avoid surgery with physical therapy? Often, yes. Conditions like meniscus tears, patellofemoral pain, tendinopathy, and even mild to moderate osteoarthritis frequently respond very well to targeted rehab. Whether surgery becomes necessary depends on the specific situation, but conservative care done well is almost always worth pursuing first.

I had knee surgery. When should I start PT? In most cases, as soon as your surgeon gives the green light, which is often within the first week. Early, guided movement is one of the most important variables in a successful surgical recovery. Waiting too long before starting rehab is one of the most common mistakes we see.

Pain-free means ready to return to sport, right? Actually, no. This is one of the most important things to understand about knee rehab, especially after ACL surgery. Pain resolution is an early milestone, not a finish line. Athletes who return to sport based on time and pain alone re-injure at much higher rates than those who pass objective strength and performance benchmarks first. We use force plate and jump testing to make sure the clearance decision is based on data, not assumption.

Can I keep training while I’m dealing with knee pain? Usually, yes. The goal is never to shut everything down. It’s to modify load intelligently so the knee continues building strength and tolerance without being continuously irritated. Complete rest is rarely the answer and often makes things worse over time.

I’ve had knee issues for years. Is it too late to fix it? No. Chronic knee pain often responds well once the underlying drivers are properly identified and addressed. The length of time you’ve had symptoms doesn’t determine the outcome nearly as much as the quality of the plan.

Care That Goes the Extra Mile

“Matt was great helping me with PT after my stem cell procedure for my knee. He was very professional and knowledgeable and explained the various stages of the healing process. He gave me exercises to do at home that were manageable and effective. He was always on time for our sessions and maximized our time together with exercises and other PT modalities. He was prompt returning emails when I had questions and always gave detailed responses. I can’t recommend Matt highly enough for your PT needs. Thank you Matt!”

A stem cell procedure is an investment. The rehab that follows determines what that investment actually buys. When a physician trusts us with her recovery, that means something to us.

Stop Working Around It

Knee pain is patient. It will wait while you modify your workouts, skip the exercises that aggravate it, and convince yourself you’ve got it managed.

But managed is not the same as solved.

At some point the workarounds become the norm, the avoidance becomes habit, and the version of yourself that moved without thinking about the knee starts to feel like a long time ago.

It doesn’t have to go that way.

At Athlete Restoration Co., knee pain treatment is built to find the source of the problem, address it directly, and rebuild a knee that earns back your trust, whether that means finishing a race, returning to your sport, staying competitive on the court, or simply moving through your day without calculating every step.

Schedule your knee evaluation today and let’s get to work.
